Novels Into Film: Adaptations & Interpretations, Volume 2

“This second volume of Novels into Films: Adaptation & Interpretations is, like volume 1 (CH, Jun'19, 56-3812), a serviceable reference text detailing 100-plus film adaptations. Films covered in this volume were released between 1935 and 2020, although the materials they adapt were published as early as 1594. Each entry consists of three main sections: "Context," which addresses both the context in which the source material was written and the context in which the film was produced and released; "Film Analysis," which highlights particular relevant scenes or cinematic choices; and "Significance," which considers a film's importance for the film industry and for the careers of both the source text author and those associated with the related film. Entries also include further reading and bibliographies. Several useful indexes allow easy access to content by release date, publication date, screenwriter, director, and so on. Those with volume 1 should certainly consider completing the set.
Summing Up: Recommended. Lower-and upper-division undergraduates; general readers.” -CHOICE, December 2022
