Notable Writers of LGBTQ+ Literature Reviews

“This two-volume reference work celebrates significant LGBTQ+ writing and its writers, and contextualizes contributions. Over 75 authors of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama, from Sappho to Rafael Campo are covered. Along with the usual leading figures, lesser-known authors such as Paula Gunn Allen, Aphra Behn, and Constantine Cavafy are featured. Entries begin with an abstract of the author's contributions and then provide biographical and achievement details in contexts of their times; an image of the author or one of their works provides another dimension. The major part of each entry consists of insightful analysis of selected works and overall writing. Each author’s list of works, a short bibliography, and further reading complete each signed entry. Sidebar contextual essays, some mentioning authors who did not merit a full entry, dot the volumes. Several appendices conclude volume two: an extensive bibliography, glossary of literary terms, a chronology of LBGTQ+ literature, contemporary guides to the library, sample neglected LGBTQ+ poems, a list of author awards, author birth and death information, and a subject index. The writing style is professionally affirmative and engaging…
