 Salem provides access to its award-winning content both in traditional, printed form and online. Both uses are included in the purchase of Salem reference. Purchasers of Salem's printed reference products included in Salem History are entitled to complimentary access to the full content of the print reference. Past purchases, as well as new ones, are included. 
Any school or library with reference content included in Salem's history database is entitled to online access to that content. This access is an inherent part of our product.Past purchases qualify. Schools and libraries aren't required to buy any new titles. Customer's content, the reference on shelves right now, is available throughout a system and remotely. Access is unlimited. Immediately. The list below includes all of the reference sets that are included in Salem History. Any that you own can be made available to you online at no charge. Getting Started To initiate access to your Salem reference online takes minutes. Those with prior purchases of Salem reference activate their access to that content with a phone call. Just dial (800) 221-1592. We'll take it from there. All new titles that are included in our online databases have an "Activation Number" bound into the inside back cover of Volume 1 of the printed set. The series combines full-text primary source documents with expert analysis and commentary. Five sets in the series, covering five major areas, are scheduled for publication and all are included in Salem History.

In 2004 a major revision and compilation of its many biographical resources was launched: Great Lives from History. The series is a far-reaching view of history, offering worldwide coverage of important men and women in all areas of achievement. Combined, these eight reference sets include 27 volumes. All of the Great Lives reference is included in Salem History.

New Editions While a substantial number of our current and past reference is available now, Salem will be updating some of this work in the future. When a title is updated, customers must purchase the new edition to have access to it online. Past editions - once replaced by revised editions - will not be available in Salem databases. Ongoing Access With the exception of new editions mentioned above, online access to your content is permanent. That is, it never expires, no matter how much or how little Salem reference you've purchased. However, the ongoing cost of the "platform" we maintain will require some small maintenance fee. If for some reason three years pass from the date of your last purchase in any of our databases, you may continue to have access in either of two ways: a) pay $100 per year per platform in maintenance fees or b) purchase one title in each platform you'd like to maintain. One purchase per platform assures ongoing free access to all the titles a library owns in that platform for an additional three years. Also, note that this ongoing access is for all of the titles you own in an entire database. For instance, all of your library's titles in Salem History, no matter how many you own, are available under this ongoing access policy. Current Users Thousands of schools, colleges and libraries currently use Salem's online platforms to bring their patrons and students reference content online, in libraries and at home. Many others, who have qualifying Salem reference in their collections now, can activate and use that content online, at no cost. And, of course, new titles will be added to all our databases every month. Complete Collections Schools and libraries with incomplete collections of the Great Events, Great Lives, Decades or Milestone Documents series may buy all missing titles at the special "Collection Development" discount of 20% off the list price. Promote Your Database Salem Press will help you promote your Salem History database with handsome promotional material, customized to your library. Unlimited Access Every library with Salem History provides an unlimited number of users access to the content. There are no restrictions on how many people can use the database. There are some restrictions on how many buildings are allowed access, however. See "Extraordinary Value" below. Patron & Student Access With a library card number (or some other identifying key) students and patrons can access all the functionality of Salem History from home. It’s easy for your library to set up and terrific for your users. Extraordinary Value The pricing, distribution and effective costs of this resource are remarkable. Smaller libraries and high schools will be able to provide extensive online history reference at a very low cost. Larger institutions, especially multiple-branch libraries, will find that a single set of the printed title will deliver online access at every branch. The print with electronic combination will make teaching research a more robust experience. (Systems with more than seven library buildings may require more than one printed set to allow universal access across their entire system. Please call for details.)
