State & Federal Grants

Several organizations distribute federal funds to U.S. libraries, including NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) and NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities), but IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) is the largest. IMLS runs a grant program known as LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act), which supports the delivery of library services in the United States. LSTA distributes funds to State Library Administrative Agencies (SLAA), also known as "state libraries," who then use the funds to support a range of libraries in their state.
